Club History

Formed in 1928, they began life playing under the name of Clipstone Combine, with their home ground near to the main Mansfield Road in Clipstone. They also played in the same Colliery Alliance league as Clipstone Colliery.

The club then moved to Baulker Lane and registered under the name Clipstone Boys Brigade. Eventually they became Clipstone Welfare and began playing in the Mansfield and district League, they also went on to play in the Sutton and Skegby League and Nottinghamshire Spartan League, where they achieved their first major success.

In the season 1955/56 they won the treble of Spartan League champions, league cup winners and Notts. County F.A. Intermediate cup winners. They then progressed to the Notts. Football Alliance League, with the promotion came a new home, which has remained their home to the present day “The Lido Ground”.

During the 1970’s the club achieved great success winning the Senior division championship and Senior cup in three consecutive seasons, from 1972/73 to 1974/75. The 1974/75 season saw the introduction of the F.A. Challenge Vase, in the inaugural year Clipstone won through to the second round after an epic battle against a Senior Leicestershire outfit called Midland Athletic.

The clubs next term of success came a decade later in the 1985/86 season which saw the club progress through to become champions of the Nottinghamshire County FA Senior Cup. The remainder of the 1980’s saw little more success with the club repeatedly finishing in the top half of the table.

The 1990’s started more promisingly and in the 1992/93 season success was once again on the front doorstep of Clipstone Welfare F.C. The League Championship came to Clipstone under the realms of John Slater and Carl Hanson in the same season they also finished runners-up in the Notts. Senior Cup. This eventful season also saw the clubs best run to date in the F.A. Challenge Vase. With such a good season behind them it was going to be difficult to emulate this in the following season. Emulate they didn’t but better it they did! They became TREBLE winners in the 1993/94 season capturing the Notts Alliance Championship, the Senior Cup and the Notts. F.A. Senior Cup.

This all resulted in promotion to the Central Midlands League, starting out in the Premier Division, in the inaugural season the club took the championship by five clear points, and took runners-up spot in the county’s Senior Cup. Ground upgrades prevented the club from gaining promotion and the chance didn’t arrive again until the end of the 1996/97 season when once again they stormed to the top of the championship table. The reserves also won their championship making it a memorable season for all.

With all of the required ground upgrades completed this enabled the first XI to gain entry into the Supreme Division and the reserves into the Reserve Premier Division, where they both currently play.

The 2003/04 season saw a change of management at the club which had been in decline for the previous 2 seasons. Dave Mason was promoted from Reserve Team Manager, supported by Simon Tunnicliffe they set about revamping both the playing staff and style of play.

It was a hard season for all at the club, but much needed changes were put in place throughout the season with new faces coming in, both on the field and off. The club begins the 2004/05 season in a much healthier position and has even started a third side to promote and encourage the abundance of up and coming youth players in the area.

The club will continue to look forward and will always strive to improve all aspects of the football club.

Club Pen Pics

Scott Burton—Goalkeeper
A great signing from Rainworth MW. Scott has great shot stopping abilities. Had a good first season, will expect competition for the keepers jersey and will relish the challenge.

Iain Streather - Defender
Signed last season from Teversal, made an immediate impact bringing stability to the back four. Great competitor, leads by example. Strong in the tackle and cool in possession.

Danny Tighe—Midfield
Exciting young talent still only 17, broke into the first team last season . Destined for bigger things. Great control and vision. Epitomises the manager's faith in his younger players.

Jordan Allen—Defender
Uncompromising and learning all the time. Jordan is going from strength to strength. Another of the up and coming players who should have a great season at the heart of defence.

Craig Flinton—Defender
Craig was Club Captain last season. Leads by example, sustained an injury which kept him out of the side at the back end of the season. Will come back stronger and more determined this season

Scott Curley—Defender
The step from the reserves has not fazed Scott. He can play any position in the four and will be invaluable to us over a long season

Mark Wigginton –Defender Signed from Blidworth Welfare this season. Strong and commanding in the air. Brother of Steve and another great signing for the club.

Simon Reah—Midfield/Right Back
Moves the ball well and looks to back up play . Early distribution is a plus point for Simon. Took over the captaincy when Craig got injured. Was the club's most consistent performer last season

Andy Woodcock - Striker
Signed this season from Teversal. A target man who also scores goals, has improved the firepower of the team and is a major signing for the club.

Colin Campbell - Defender
Colin has been at the club for many years, a reliable and experienced defender who can play at sweeper and right back. Has won many trophies with the club and is looking to bring success to the club again. A great presence on the pitch, always talking and great vision.

Darron Thorpe—Striker
Signed from Sutton Town. Darron has slotted in very well and is looking forward to show what he can do. Limited appearances due to work.

Peter Stevenson—Striker
Has good feet and pace. This matched with a physical presence give Pete an excellent chance to succeed at this level.

Gary Tindall - Defender/Midfield
Signed this season, previous clubs Mansfield Town and Sutton Town. Another useful addition to the squad. Has a good first touch and rarely gives the ball away. Gary is a neat player who plays the ball simply bringing others into the game.

Paul Shaw—Striker
A proven striker in this league who has great arial ability. He holds the ball up well and obviously still enjoys scoring goals.

Jamie Batty—Midfield
Has natural fitness and ability. His work rate is phenomenal. Another youngster with a great future

Jamie Hardwick—Midfield
Jamie has set the target in pre-season training. Although one of the more experienced players his attitude and energy has been 1st class.

Steve Wigginton—Midfield
An up and down season last year. Plagued with niggling injuries, Steve's obvious talent was sorely missed when he was out of the team. Capable of dictating play, will be a major influence for the club this season

Scott Tunnicliffe—Midfield
Covers every blade of grass and another player who has stepped up. Has a great work rate and is blessed with excellent ball winning skills.

Sean Vella – Midfield New signing, Sean is a creative midfielder who likes to get forward. Great vision and a good turn of pace.

Kier Webster - Midfield/Striker
Second spell at the club for Kier, has great ability and a good turn of pace. Good with the ball at his feet and loves taking defenders on.

Ali Rahemtulla-Midfield
Youngster who signed for the club midway through last season. Shows great ability with both feet. Will certainly be a player for the future.

Jonathon Garnham-Defender
Signed from Thoresby MW. Jon is looking to step up in standard, previously Thoresby Captain. Has probably the best long throw in the league.
