Club History
Dinnington Main 1908-14 entered in the Hatchard Cup League. This started as a cup competition but as it developed over the years moved towards what we know as a League formation.

Dinnington Colliery 1914-19 entered the wartime Wharncliffe Charity League. This League due to shortage of teams allowed entries from Minor leagues up to the standard Football League.

Dinnington Main Colliery 1919-28 rejoined the Hatchard League. In 1921 made their fist entry in to the FA Cup against Silverwood Colliery losing after extra time 4-3. Between 1921 and 1928 they spent their life in the Sheffield Association League.

Dinnington Athletic entered the Sheffield Association League. In 1932 they won the prestigious Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup hence qualifying for the FA Cup beating Bentley Colliery & Silverwood Colliery by the same 3-1 margin, but then lost out to Rawmarsh Welfare in the following round. Having waited many years, in 1934 the club reached the FA Cup First Round Proper where they lost away at Chester City 3-1. In the 1936-37 season they were accepted in to the Yorkshire League. Their highest point came when winning the Second Division title in 1969-70.

Dinnington Colliery 1976-85 joined the Midland League. This was the start of a sad decline for the club. In 1985 along with the Colliery, the club folded.

At the start of the Millennium, Regeneration of Dinnington had come at last. On the site of the old colliery and area around, new factories, supermarkets, small businesses were appearing and new public buildings like the Dinnington Resource Centre on Loughton Road were being built. Hence the emergence of the new DINNINGTON TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB being formed in 2000-01.

We have three teams, the first team competes in the Supreme Division of the Central Midlands League, The Reserves play in the County Senior League and we have an Under 18’s team. With time other Youth teams will be formed.

Last season we finished runners up in the Supreme Division and reached the Final of the Central Midlands League Cup.

The first two seasons the club played at a ground near Meadowhall in Sheffield in the Central Midlands League Premier Division as the Dinnington ground did not meet the League criteria. Amazingly the club gained promotion to the Supreme Division as the facilities at the Resource Centre became available. The first stage of work to the changing rooms, player’s dugouts and covered standing is near complete; erecting floodlights is our next goal. On that note the future looks bright in Dinnington.

Club Pen Pics

Phil Rhodes: Phil signed from last year from University of Loughborough. He is a excellent shot stopper and will hope to make the number 1 jersey his own this year. Saved a penalty in the 5-0 home victory over Rolls Royce Leisure.

Joe Ntiedu: Joe has been with Dinnington since the clubs inception in 2000. A versatile player, he can operate anywhere across the defence and his pace makes him a useful front man when required.

Andy Sykes: Andy's 3rd season after signing from Thorne Colliery. Andy is a no nonsense centre back who is not afraid of crunching tackles.

Mick Vernon: Team Captain. Mick is another who has been with the club from the start, an accomplished defender who leads by example. Previously with Sheffield FC of the Northern Counties East League.

Ben Dearns: Ben's second spell with town after a break studying. Strong marker, very quick, does not like to be beaten. Former Worksop Town player.

Ben Rosser: Ben has also been with the club since the beginning. A strong and quick player, he is equally at home in midfield or defence where his runs from deep cause the opposition all sorts of problems. Scorer of plenty of goals.

Russ O'Neil: Russ is a creative midfielder with bags of skill. Dinnington don't lose many games when Russ plays. Former clubs include Everton and Chapeltown WMC.

Dale Joel: Creative midfielder who has progressed through the reserves after joining the club upon its formation. Dale is now establishing himself as a 1st team squad member and will be hoping to take his chance soon.

Michael Blythen: Classy Midfielder who has a taste for goal. The club will succeed to the higher level with players like him.

Greg Wright: Talented midfielder, the youngest player in the side at 17 years old, like Michael Blythen, he is the type of player the club needs to attract to get promotion.

Simon Mirfin: He is the hardest working player you will ever find, midfield or up front, first name on team sheet.

John Saville: Tall, rangy centre back who is probably the best header of a ball in the squad. "Sav" had been absent for nearly a year due to a re-occuring ankle problem, but made a welcome return to the starting line up in the 3-2 victory over Dunkirk in August 2002.

Mark Thompson: Mark has returned to the squad after a year spent travelling. He signed for the club at the very start and his tireless running from box to box will be welcomed back by the manager.

Kieran Gallagher: Forward with bags of skill and with a eye for the spectacular goal.

Aron Hines: Aron has the talent to make it in the professional ranks but has not had the luck that is needed to make it, a world beater on his day.

Luke Siggs: A natural goal scorer and a very hard working forward.

Chris Askey: Chris is a new face in midfield this season. He has shown good skills and has impressed in his 1st games for the club.

Wally Chambers: Wally is the reliable"old head" of the side. He always gives 100% but is currently out of the side through injury. Previous Clubs include Sheffield FC and Denaby United and various other local sides.

Rachid Otsmain-Elhaou: Manager Steve Toyne tried to sign rachid a first year student at Manchester university, but his studies got in the way of football. A quick forward. Ex clubs include Harworth CI.

Mat Smith: Our posh boy of the team. Lots of energy on and off the pitch. Talented player of football and on stage with his head banging band.

Steve Toyne: General Manager: Steve took the helm of Town at its inception and since then has been instrumental in everything that has happened to the club. Steve has also played professional football for Chesterfield and non league with Denaby United, matlock Town and Selby Town.

Nev Burbeary: Coach: While combining duties at Derby County as the U14 Academy coach, Nev has provided a different approach to games and preparation that so far has paid dividends. He has a UEFA A Coaching badge and also the UEFA B Goalkeeping version. Nev now works for Sheffield Wednesday Academy. He is much respected in the game.
