Club History

Graham Street Prims celebrate their Centenary Anniversary this season.

Graham Street Prims was founded in 1904 by churchgoers at the Primitive Methodist Church in Graham Street, Derby, which is off Osmaston Road near the Baseball Ground, Prims therefore is simply short for Primitives.

The club disbanded in 1914 owing to the outbreak of the First World War but even in that first ten years they were able to boast players who went on to play League Football, notably the Keetley brothers and Jimmy Bagshaw, who eventually played for Notts County & England.

It was not until 1953 that the club surfaced again, almost entirely to the efforts of one Les Glover, who lived on Russell Street, next to Graham Street and decided on spending virtually all his spare time and money on reviving the club. In local terms they became very successful club winning many League and Cups along the way. But they were never sure of a perminant home and it was a lack of their home groundthat led to a second disbanding of the club in 1991.

A merger with the old Carriage & Wagon club in 1995 saw them back again with the home at the Railway Ground Longbridge Lane, but repeated vandalism proved a problem and they were unable to erect floodlights and because of this were relegated from the Central Midlands Supreme Division. Some players and officials resigned, others just never turned up again as a result of that blow and a third closure looked on the cards until the clubs determined committee secured the use of a pitch at the Asterdale Ground, Borrowash Road Spondon, adjacent to Borrowash Victoria's ground.

Four years of hard work has seen a proper ground emerge with dressing rooms, clubhouse, a stand, perimeter fencing and those all important Floodlights, so the future of the club looks brighter than ever.
