Club History

The origins of Heanor Town FC owe their beginnings to long before their formation in 1883. Teams representing the town and playing under the name of Heanor or Heanor Town have been recorded in 1878, but it was not until a public meeting was called in 1883 that the club first affiliated to the Derbyshire County FA and a league - The Derbyshire League was joined. Within a decade the club had established itself as a Midland League side with some distinction, once finishing 7th when the top 4 were admitted to the Football League and 4 times reaching the 1st Round proper of the FA Cup.

Since then the Lions have played in the Derbyshire League, Midland League(twice), Central Combination, Central Alliance, Notts Alliance, West Midlands(Regional) and Northern Counties East League and in 1986 they joined the Central Midlands League and are the only club with continuos membership of the Supreme Division since it was founded.

Since the 2nd World War, Heanor Town have reached the FA Cup on 2 occasions. In 1958 they lost at home 1-5 to Carlisle United in front of a Town Ground crowd of 6,511 and in 1963 when they lost to Bradford Park Avenue 3-1in front of 5,799. The club has also won several trophies including the Derbyshire Senior Cup and the Central Midlands League Cup.
